2006
Annual Wine Tasting Benefit
Posted: October 25, 2006
On October 24th, Crime Prevention Institute held it's
3rd Annual Wine Tasting Event at the Apple Bar in downtown
Austin, Texas. Guests enjoyed appetizers and music by
the Southwest Texas String Quartet while sampling fine
wines poured by professional wine experts from Republic
Beverage Company and E&J Gallo.
The evening also included door prizes, silent auction
and presentation of the CPI Community Spotlight Award
to Mr. Gilbert Campuzano, Texas Department of Criminal
Justice, Region VI Director. The Community Spotlight
Award was designed to honor an individual whose work
is significant on a micro or macro level in the area
of offender re-entry, but that often goes unnoticed
or is behind the scenes.
The Wine Tasting is an important event for CPI, as it
is currently the agency's only fundraiser and the unrestricted
dollars helps the agency improve their service delivery
and client resources. Last year the event raised enough
money allowing the agency to hire a part time case manager
for the summer to share in the abundant workload nonprofits
are often faced with accomplishing. Thank you for this
year's community support and generous sponsorships!
We couldn't do it without you!!
CPI Receives OneStar Foundation Grant
Posted: July 14, 2006
In June 2006, Crime Prevention Institute was awarded
a six month capacity building grant from The OneStar
Foundations Compassion Capital Fund Texas Demonstration
Project. The project is designed to assist Texas faith
and community-based organizations better serve their
local communities. The funding will assist the agency
in meeting two of its three major goals for this year;
diversifying funding from unrestricted sources, and
developing and strengthening the board. With the OneStar
capacity building funds, CPI will hire a part-time development
consultant to assist in creating a development plan,
train staff and CPI board on fund development and create
a branding/marketing plan for the agency. OneStar funds
will also be used to purchase marketing materials to
aid in professional standardized branding of the agency.
Both activities will lead to increased sustainability
and growth to solidify the future of CPI.
Dell Volunteers of Distinction Award
Posted: May 2, 2006
Volunteers of Distinction is an annual program that
recognizes Dell employees worldwide for their contribution
to the community. In April 2006, Seth Paskin, CPI Board
Chair was awarded the Community Service Ambassador award
in recognition for his dedication to the community and
commitment to CPI. In his honor, CPI received $1,500
in recognition of his hard work.
Seth started as a volunteer with CPI in January 2004
in a tech support role. He spent countless hours upgrading
CPIs computer system and helped secure donated
equipment. As his time spent at CPI increased, Seth
became more invested in CPIs mission and more
committed to seeing the organization realize its vision.
This was important enough to him that he decided to
apply for Board membership. The Board approved his nomination
in the Fall of 2004. In January of 2005 he became the
Board Secretary and was elected Board Chair in 2006.
As a member of the board, he maintained his role providing
tech support, but voluntarily extended his role to include
planning, budgeting, grant writing, and facilitation/leadership.
Seth is a valuable part of the agency and we could not
do it without him.
Congratulations Seth and thank you!
State Employee Charitable Campaign
Posted: January 1, 2006
CPI is proud to join the list of 2006 State Employee
Charitable Campaign (SECC) recipients. The SECC is the
only statutorily authorized workplace campaign for state
agency and higher education employees throughout Texas.
In 2004, the SECC marked its 11th year by raising over
$8 million for charitable organizations throughout the
Lone Star state.
Each fall, state employees have the opportunity to learn
about the charities in the SECC, choose which ones they
want to help, and then fill out a pledge form to indicate
how much they wish to donate to which groups. Donors
can make a one-time gift by cash or check or a gift
can be deducted from each paycheck beginning January
2007.
CPI and the Travis County State Jail
Posted: February 2, 2005
On January 1, 2005 CPI moved its offices into the Travis
County State Jail. We are very excited about this new
partnership with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice
and our ability to provide expanded pre-release assistance
and services to inmates at the jail. This is a great
opportunity for us to save money and streamline our
program and we are very grateful to TDCJ.
Dress for Success Partnership
Posted: February 2, 2005
CPI has a new partner in our work to help transition
folks from jail or prison back into society as smoothly
and successfully as possible. Dress for Success Austin
(DFSA) is a non-profit organization that provides interview
suits, confidence boosts, and career development to
women seeking employment. They are a grassroots organization
with a commitment to empowering low-income, job-ready
women. CPI has been approved as a referral agency to
DFSA, which means that any woman on our caseload (EGSBB
moms as well as other women on the TPRE caseload) can
be referred to DFSA for an interview suit complete with
accessories and shoes. Once the woman lands the job,
she is eligible to come back for additional professional
clothing to help her transition into the work world.
Stephany Baskin, Founder and Executive Director of Dress
for Success Austin has already agreed to set aside some
clothing for the EGSBB moms scheduled for release this
summer and has also agreed to accompany us out to Gatesville
to measure the women and do a presentation for them
regarding the DFSA/CPI partnership and what services
are available to them. This is a very exciting partnership
for us and for our clients! For more information on
Dress for Success Austin and how you can help, go to
www.dressforsuccess.org or contact Stephany Baskin at
stephanyb@earthlink.net or (512) 916-4322.
Thank you Dress for Success Austin!! |
