For years the staff and board of CPI have dreamed of putting on a family-friendly, alcohol-free event that would bring together community members, CPI stakeholders, clients, and staff. “Our goal was to provide a safe, sober, and fun way for our clients to enjoy themselves, their families, and their freedom,” said Executive Director Laura Smith. “We really wanted to celebrate their successes and encourage them to keep going down the right path. Big thanks to our wonderful staff for making that dream a reality.”
On May 31, 2008, CPI held its first annual Chill n’ Grill Family Picnic at Zilker Park. With 67 current and former clients, family members, and CPI stakeholders in attendance, the Chill n’ Grill was a huge success. The event featured a cookout, softball, spades and dominoes tournaments, an iPod raffle, and other activities. Plans are already in the works for the 2009 Chill n’ Grill, and we know that next year’s event will be even better.
