Art Beyond Bars, 2009: A Magical Night
Art Beyond Bars, CPI's annual primary fund-raising event, moved to a new venue this year, the beautiful Mexican American Cultural Center. It was a gorgeous setting both inside and out, providing guests with more room to mingle, view and bid on wonderful items, nibble on treats, and listen to the Ephraim Owens Trio. Our patented "Art Of . . . " packages were more impressive than ever, featuring luxurious items and unique services from many beloved Austin institutions. We even had an artist on-site finish up a gorgeous painting that was then presented for auction on the spot! Once again we are enormously grateful to Gayle Stallings of FUNauctions for leading a spirited live auction that included some entertaining bidding wars. It was especially exciting for us at CPI to witness the attendees' generosity during the Fund-a-Need portion of the evening, when more than $1,000 dollars was spontaneously raised to help ensure that CPI clients are provided with options when obstacles are thrown in their path.
We're determined to make 2010 a record year for Art Beyond Bars in both attendance and funds raised. Our love and thanks go to those who came and celebrated with us in 2009, as well as to the sponsors, artists, and donors who made this year's event so special. We are already excited about the next Art Beyond Bars, and look forward to seeing you all again. It's going to be a gala to remember!
2008 Art Beyond Bars Recap
In 2008, CPI’s annual fundraiser featured performances from The Ephraim Owens Trio, Sara Hickman, a live and silent art auction with donated pieces from prison inmates and E.A.S.T. Austin studio tour artists, free food and cheap drinks, and the Community Spotlight Awards.
