Announces the 2008 Community Spotlight Award Winners
Austin, Texas (October 14, 2008) - The Crime
Prevention Institute's Community Spotlight Awards
are given to individuals and agencies who have made
a significant contribution in the area of offender
reintegration, but who often are behind the scenes,
and not in the 'spotlight.'
This year, CPI will present Spotlight Awards in 3
categories:
Elected Official: Judge Samuel Biscoe, in honor of his leadership with Travis county’s ‘Ban the Box’ initiative, removing the ‘have you been convicted of a felony’ box from Travis county employment applications.
Agency: Girl Scouts of Central Texas, in honor of our long standing partnership and the ten year anniversary of the Enterprising Girl Scouts Beyond Bars program, a program serving a local girl scout troop and their incarcerated mothers.
Individual: Larry Butler, CPI Success Story, Board Member
Individual: Rita Allen, CPI Success Story
